Food Plot Weather

There’s something sacred about the turning of seasons. Fall drifts in quietly…mornings crisp with dew, evenings carrying the smell of woodsmoke, and fields and forests preparing for rest. For many families, this season holds more than just changing leaves. It marks the beginning of hunting season, a rhythm deeply rooted in tradition, patience, and provision.

As the wife of a hunter, I’ve come to see hunting season through a lens of faith. What some may only see as a sport, I’ve come to cherish as a reminder of God’s design for family and the role of the provider. Scripture tells us, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” (1 Timothy 5:8). This is not just about food on the table, it’s about living with a heart of responsibility, sacrifice, and love.

When my husband rises early, slipping into the stillness of the woods, he is not just pursuing deer or game…he is walking in the calling God placed on men to care for their homes. There’s honor in the quiet hours of waiting, the patience of the hunt, and the steady hands that carry provision back home. Hunting season is not just about filling the freezer…it’s about filling our lives with gratitude for the way God provides through the hands of those we love.

And isn’t that the way of our faith too? Hunting takes patience…the waiting, the watching, the trusting that the right moment will come. How often does the Lord call us into that same posture? “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7). Just as a hunter trusts the season and the timing, we too must trust God’s timing in our lives. His provision may not always look the way we expect, but it is always enough.

But there is another layer to this season…one that stretches beyond the present moment: legacy. Hunting is more than a pastime…it is often a tradition passed down from fathers to sons and daughters, from grandfathers to grandsons and granddaughters, from one generation to the next. It is mornings in the woods teaching patience, responsibility, respect for God’s creation, and the joy of providing for others. These are values that outlast the season and echo into eternity.

The Bible reminds us, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” (Proverbs 13:22). That inheritance is not just land or wealth, but the wisdom of living faithfully, working diligently, and trusting God completely. A husband who provides today is building a foundation for tomorrow …shaping children who will one day rise up and carry on the same values of faith, stewardship, and provision.

This fall, as the woods come alive with rustling leaves and God’s creatures stir in the cool air, I am reminded of the goodness of His design. The Lord is a covenant-keeping God, and just as He promised to be our Shepherd, our husbands step into that reflection of provision in our homes. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1).

So here’s to this season…a season of provision, patience, and praise. May our homes be filled with warmth, our tables with bounty, and our hearts with thanksgiving. And may we see in this hunting season not only God’s hand of provision, but also the beautiful legacy being written…one that our children and grandchildren will one day look back on with gratitude, faith, and pride.

A good season in the woods.

A good season in the home.

A good season in our faith.

And a legacy that endures for generations.
